IDCS was selected to participate as a sub-consultant to CH2M Hill for the Lemont Water Reclamation Plant Wet Weather Treatment Facility (WWTF) upgrades project. This is a multi-phased project which includes the installation of a 5MG wet weather reservoir for storage of the initial excess flow, and the installation of a wet weather treatment facility which provides primary treatment and disinfection for flows above treatment and storage capacity. This will greatly relieve wastewater discharges into the adjacent sanitary and ship canal. IDCS was responsible for the electrical and controls design for the Lemont WWTF work. The electrical design included new power distribution to the WW Reservoir, a WW Pump Station, Vortex Separator and Chemical Disinfection Building. Each building required motor control centers to feed the new power and lighting panels. All equipment necessitated appropriate rating status to meet the area classifications. The controls design included expansion of the existing DCS to include all of the new facilities which were interconnected via fiber optic cable. The new facilities were successfully connected to the existing plant DCS, and are ultimately controlled by the DCS system at the Calumet WWTP. Additionally, the design included provisions for the next project phase: a large pumping station which will be used to convey all flows to the Stickney WWRF, approximately 15 miles away.
